Retention
WE DID IT!
The day you have been working towards has finally arrived—your braces are coming off and your new smile is here!
But is your treatment really finished?
Almost.
Removing your braces is an exciting milestone, but it is not the end of your orthodontic treatment. The next, and very important, stage is retention.
Once your teeth have been moved into their new positions, your teeth, bone, gums and surrounding muscles need time to adapt and stabilise. Your retainers are designed to hold your teeth in their corrected positions while this process takes place and, importantly, help protect the results you have worked so hard to achieve.
Retention is an essential part of successful orthodontic treatment. Your beautiful new smile deserves to be maintained, so following your retainer instructions and attending any recommended follow-up appointments is just as important as wearing your braces was.
The length and type of retention will vary from patient to patient. As for the amount of time needed, it varies with each person.
